CAASPP tests, also known as the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress. It involves a system of different examinations designed to get an accurate picture of how a student is progressing academically. The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress testing system was established in 2014. It replaced the previously used Standardized Testing and Reporting Program, which was used in California until 2013. Students take different assessments depending on where they are in their educational program, generally divided up into grades three through grade 8 and grade 11.

All students in the specific grade levels, with some exceptions, are required to take the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics. There are two sections to this test, which is taken on a computer. The first is a computer adaptive test that includes a variety of test item types, from selected response and tables to fill-ins and graphing. The second part of the test is a performance task based on the ELA and Mathematics Common Core State Standards. This portion of the test measures how a student is able to integrate skills, as well as knowledge, across multiple standards.

Preparing for the CAASPP Test

There are a variety of ways for your student to prepare for the CAASPP, but it largely boils down to understanding the material that the test will cover and answering practice questions to become comfortable with the format of the tests. Working with one of our tutors will help increase your student’s chances for a successful test because the tutors will work with your student on an individual basis to cover the necessary material that should be covered on the test. Our tutors can work with students at any grade level, so it does not matter whether you are getting an early start on test preparation while your student is in second grade or preparing them in high school for the CAASPP and standardized tests to get ready for college.

Our tutors will work with your student to develop an individualized study plan. This tailors your student’s studying to specific areas, particularly those identified by the tutor as areas of weakness for your student. This means your student does not waste unnecessary time focused on areas where they have already mastered the concepts. During the study sessions, our tutors will employ a variety of different methods to help your students prepare for the test and master the material. For students who learn best via an auditory means, our tutors can lecture to them on different topics, allowing them to take notes to review later. Students that do better with visual aids can be directed to different resources that can help with their studying.

There are many reasons why your student can benefit from a tutor who specializes in tutoring for the CAASPP tests. In addition to helping your student master, the core curriculum concepts covered by the test, working with a tutor can also increase their academic confidence. They can also master test-taking skills and strategies to do their best on the test. One of the things that are difficult about preparing for the CAASPP tests is that they are still under development, so new pilot tests are rolled out periodically. To do well on the tests, your student should be prepared for more than the test itself. They should have mastered the covered material and feel comfortable with test-taking strategies, which makes working with a private tutor an integral part of doing well on the CAASPP.

Working with a tutor can help your student stand apart from the crowd, as they get an individualized study plan that lets them target their studies and focus on what is important. The one-on-one approach to learning offers a significant advantage over the classroom, where teachers work with multiple students, oftentimes in the neighbourhood of more than 20 students at one time. Rather than working with a teacher that is overextended, working with one of our tutors allows your student to get all of the answers to their questions and have a guided approach to their learning.
