AP English Language and Composition

AP English Language and Composition is an introductory college-level course in rhetoric and composition, built around analyzing how writers make persuasive choices in nonfiction texts and building strong arguments of your own. Rather than a fixed reading list, the course uses a wide range of nonfiction pieces to develop the same core skills again and again at increasing complexity, and the exam rewards precise rhetorical vocabulary and well-supported arguments over broad summary. Our tutors at Growing Stars build both the analytical reading and the argumentative writing skills clearly, step by step, using the student's own course material.

Why Families Choose Growing Stars for AP English Language and Composition Tutoring

At Growing Stars, we know that every student’s reading and writing strengths look different. Our expert tutors personalize each session to the student’s course material, learning pace, and goals, rather than following a fixed script.

Sessions follow the student’s course texts, notes, and upcoming assessments, supported by our library of essay-structure guidance, rhetorical-analysis frameworks, and past-exam style practice. Because sessions are one-on-one, tutors can spend as much time as needed on the skill causing trouble — whether that’s identifying a rhetorical device, synthesizing multiple sources into one argument, or tightening prose style under timed conditions.

Sessions take place online, so students can join from home, a study space, or anywhere with an internet connection.
