The ACCUPLACER is a computer-based assessment used by colleges to place students in the appropriate course levels. It evaluates students’ current skill levels in English, Reading, and Math. The ACCUPLACER is “computer adaptive,” meaning that the difficulty of the questions adjusts based on the student’s responses. Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS): Explores rational numbers, ratio and proportional relationships, algebraic expressions, linear equations, and probability.
Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF): Delves into higher-level math concepts like factoring, quadratics, radical and rational equations, polynomial equations, and trigonometry.
WritePlacer (Essay): Requires writing a structured essay evaluated on purpose and focus, organization, development and support, and sentence variety.
ACCUPLACER for English Language Learners (ESL): Assesses Language Use, Listening, Reading Skills, and Sentence Meaning for non-native speakers.
Format: Online computer adaptive technology is used to conduct the exam. The Reading, Writing, and Math sections consist of multiple-choice questions, while the optional WritePlacer is in essay format.
Duration: The ACCUPLACER Math tests are untimed; students can focus on solving problems and demonstrating their skills without the pressure of a ticking clock.
Scoring: * Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, QAS, and AAF: 200–300 range.
WritePlacer: 1–8 range.
ESL Tests: 20–120 range.
