  • Geometry and Trigonometry: Includes calculating area and volume, understanding lines, angles, triangles, and circles, as well as basic trigonometric ratios.

PSAT 10 Math Exam Overview

The PSAT 10 is administered entirely in a digital format using the College Board’s Bluebook application. The test uses a multi-stage adaptive design, meaning your performance on the first module determines the difficulty of the questions in the second module.

  • Format: 44 questions split across two equal modules. The section includes both multiple-choice questions and student-produced responses (grid-ins).
  • Duration: Strictly timed at 70 minutes total (35 minutes per module).
  • Calculator Policy: An integrated Desmos graphing calculator is available on screen for the entire Math section, though students may also bring an approved physical calculator.
  • Scoring: The Math section is scored on a scale of 160 to 760. There is no negative scoring.

How to Prepare for the PSAT 10 Math

  • Master the Core Concepts: Build a strong foundation in the key content domains of the PSAT 10 Math test—Algebra, Advanced Math, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Data Analysis & Problem Solving.
  • Strengthen Problem-Solving and Computational Skills: Focus on improving your ability to quickly translate real-world word problems into mathematical formulas, since speed and precision are essential on the exam.
  • Targeted Practice: Strengthen specific concepts and skills based on individual learning needs.
  • Practice Under Real Exam Conditions: Train with digital, adaptive-style modules and familiarize yourself with the built-in Desmos calculator to mirror actual PSAT 10 test conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find quick answers to common questions about our PSAT 10 Math tutoring, session format, and student support.

It provides a structured approach aligned with College Board objectives, ensuring students can tackle complex quantitative reasoning questions under time pressure while mastering the new digital format.

This approach allows students to work through complex Math concepts at their own pace with expert guidance, receiving personalized advice and problem-solving strategies rather than generalized classroom instruction. It helps them strengthen the skills needed to calculate accurately and efficiently within a limited time.

No. Only the PSAT/NMSQT taken in the 11th grade qualifies students for the National Merit Scholarship Program. However, the PSAT 10 provides identical content and acts as the best possible preparation for that crucial 11th-grade test.

Yes. The exam is fully digital and adaptive, administered via the College Board's testing app.

Yes! Unlike older versions of the test, a calculator is now permitted on every single math question. The testing app includes a built-in Desmos graphing calculator, or students can bring their own approved physical calculator.

It covers Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, and Geometry and Trigonometry.

Students receive a section score between 160 and 760. There is no negative scoring and no partial credit.

There is no direct negative marking for wrong answers. However, since it is a section-level adaptive test, poor performance on the first section can indirectly lower your score by routing you to an easier second section, which caps your maximum overall scoring potential.
