The program supports and prepares students for all IB Physics HL assessment objectives, including demonstrating knowledge, understanding and applying knowledge; analyzing, evaluating and synthesizing experimental procedures and data; and applying the skills needed to carry out insightful and ethical investigations. Students receive targeted guidance for the Scientific Investigation (IA) and external assessments, with practice in exploring and designing, collecting and processing data, and concluding and evaluating.
Tutoring is tailored to each student’s academic requirements, with a focus on understanding physical systems, models, theories, and laws, alongside the mathematical and conceptual approaches required at HL. Students develop skills in applying knowledge, skills, techniques, and methodologies; analyzing and interpreting data; conducting experimental investigations; and communicating scientific information effectively.

IB Physics HL is graded on a 1–7 scale, with 7 being the highest grade. The final grade is based on the student’s performance in external examinations and the Scientific Investigation (IA).
What percentage of the final grade comes from external assessments? A: The external assessments contribute 80% of the final grade.
The Scientific Investigation contributes 20% of the final grade.
The external assessment includes Paper 1 (36%) and Paper 2 (44%), which assess students through multiple-choice, data-based, short-answer, and extended-response questions.
Students formulate their own research question, gather and analyze data, and prepare a scientific investigation report that answers their question.
Does the Physics HL IA affect the final IB grade? A: Yes. The Scientific Investigation is worth 20% of the final Physics HL grade, making it an important part of the overall assessment.
